Push Pins

M&G’s colourful Push Pins come in a handy re-closable retail hanging pack (it requires a slat wall or grid wall pin type hanger).  There is a mix of 35 colours in the pack including blue, green, red, white and yellow.  People commonly use these to hold notices to noticeboards and a more substantial map pins.  We use the here to show the location of our trade customers around the UK, different colours for wholesalers, cash & carry, dealers, retailers etc.

History

Push Pins were the first of this family of stationery products to be invented in 1900 by Edwin Moore.  He founded the ‘Moor Push Pin Company’ to get this useful new product to market,.  At first he described these as ‘pins with a handle’ but ‘Push Pin’ had a better ring to it so that has stuck since he started using it.

Push Pins were soon the subject of innovation by German clockmaker Johann Kirsten who, in 1903 produced a variation.  His product is known as a ‘thumb tac’ in the USA and ‘Drawing Pin’ in the UK.  It is of course is equally useful as a temporary fixing pin.
